CREATIVE EXPRESSION
What is EMBODIED CREATIVITY?
Embodied creative expression is a process of deep self-inquiry using our senses, body and voice. It's an open non-judgmental exploration, guided by our innate creative intelligence, of giving language form and breath to our human experience - all of it.
It's a spiritual path of healing and transformation as well as a way to inhabit, refine, live and share our unique gifts.
For me embodied creative expression is a path of reclaiming our lives and gradually discover who we truly are, while being creative and communicative internally or outwardly through body, voice, emotion or state.
By attentively and willingly following the thread of any inner impulse however subtle, and allowing this impulse to grow into form while held by our non-judging awareness, we can regain our natural creative spirit, the freedom to express and flow from deep inner ground and an open receptive heart.
Our body is the intricate vessel of our essence. It is the portal for spirit to move through us, and for the rich experience of being human. Creativity is a natural expression of our life energy and the vehicle for sharing our unique blueprint with the world.
When this genuine flow is obstructed we can feel isolated, disconnected and out of balance. Restoring its free, authentic movement brings a deep sense of fulfillment purpose and joy.
Many of us have been taught to disconnect from our spontaneous body responses and the natural power and joy of our voice. We have learned to control our feelings and communication by restricting our breath, voice and free movement.
As a consequence our system may need to call out to us through states of exhaustion, tension, anxiety, numbness, self-judgment, emotionality, illness etc. in order to be contacted and heard.
Whenever we allow ourselves breath and expression – creative, artistic or otherwise – deeper layers of our being are vibrated and unveiled. When we pay close attention and can bring gentle acceptance and awareness to this expression, it offers us profound insights and ways to heal and grow back into balance.
When we let our voice and body guide us, we have direct access to hidden areas – inner unknown places of misunderstanding and confusion – that may have been affecting us for a long time. On a cellular level we are able to gain deeper knowing. Somatic, emotional and mental patterns are gradually freed, viscerally experienced, understood and transformed.
I deeply appreciate the Buddha guiding us to “Love yourself and watch”…and in that order!
I find that love and safety is needed in this beautiful delicate dance of unfolding and shedding our layers so whatever arises is met in a spirit of welcome. Learning to watch ourselves with kindness as we without judgment embrace whatever arrives and seeks expression from our inner world, opens the door for our energy to move and for our lives to be lived fully.
